These cats are located in Los Gatos, California at an exit off of southbound Highway 17 at the base of the Lexington Reservoir Dam.
They are "Leo" and "Leona", 8ft tall and made of concrete. Leo, on the right, has squinted eyes, while Leona's eyes are wide open. They have guarded this entrance since 1922 when they were built by the sculptor Robert Treat Paine for the writer Col. Charles Erskine Scott Wood and the poet Sara Bard Field. Wood and Field wanted a place where they and their guests could work undisturbed. So in 1919 they bought 34 acres of land where they could build their "Castle in the sky". Poet's Canyon was a gathering place for the "artistic people" of the time.
