Long Description:One of the most impressive bits of history here is the locally
built 1889 vernacular fishing boat. Used by three generations for
over 100 years the vessel fished local waters and was used to
peddle produce and fish to various towns along the Albemarle.
"An aquarium features native fish. Displays share the story of
East Carolina University students' underwater archeological
explorations of sunken ships from exciting Civil War battles and
ordinary, but exciting, travels through the river’s shortcuts.
Exhibits on early boatbuilding help chronicle the evolution from
paddle to sail to motor."
