Two markers, one set by the BLM and one by the Pony Express Trail Association, identifying the site of the Carson Sink Station. Other than these markers, some random posts and few bits of metal nothing remains of the station.

According to the site www.xphomestation.com, accounts of the station had it near a "fine spring" and near enough to a lake to use mud from it to make adobe walls for the station. A report from 1960 stated that two of the adobe corral walls and those of four to five buildings were still visible. Today, no clear remains of the station or spring remain. To the north, there are large areas of the flats covered with shells which may have been the lake.

The site is about 14 miles south of Fallon on US-95 and just over half-mile west of the highway. There is a trail that passes within feet of the marker that can be accessed from the road just off US-95 that heads around TOPGUN Dragstrip. There is also a trail to the north of the station that follows an old section of irrigation canal. However, this trail is not in good shape and only gets within about 150 meters of the site...you'll have to walk from there. Be sure and check topo maps or overhead photos as there are lots of trails in this area. As always, high clearance and 4WD recommended.
