In 1916 3 members of the La Porte City School Board managed to secure a $25,500 grant from the Carnegie foundation for a new library. Since the original library was open it has been renovated and a newer larger section added at the rear of the building. The original 1920 building was retained and is the main part of the front section. Unfortunately the library was closed when I passed thru. As far as I can tell it has been used as a library for the duration of it's life. The library opened in 1920 with 30,000
The library is open Mon to Thurs - 9am-8pm, Fri - 9am-6pm, Sat - 9am-5pm and closed Sundays.
The history of the site is also outlined on an Indiana Historical Marker that stands on the lawn at the SE corner of the building. This gives a bit of detail on the history.
