This Southern Pacific caboose is one of 75
Class C-50-9 bay window cabooses built for Southern Pacific in April 1980. The link above contains specifics on this caboose type including features unique to the class. Built by PACCAR, the C-50-9's were different from all preceding Southern Pacific caboose classes because they have no side windows.
This unit was one of eight Southern Pacific Cabooses rescued from a scrappers torch by the Train Mountain Railroad Museum in the 1990s. The plan is to convert this caboose into a concession stand for the
Klamath & Western Railway.
the Klamath & Western Railway is open to the public on on Memorial and Labor Day and Sunday's during the summer. It is part of the much larger Train Mountain Railroad Museum.
Train Mountain is a members only organization dedicated to railroad heritage preservation. A tour of the location can be arranged by contacting
Train Mountain.
