This is a still functioning 1831 clock, by Simon Willard, mounted in the end of the Old State House in Boston. It is the city's oldest surviving building, dating from 1713. Here the Declaration of Independence was first read in 1776.

The Boston Preservation Society, in speaking of restoration undertaken in 2008 states:
"The workings of the still-functioning 1831 Simon Willard clock, the face of which is located between the lion and unicorn of the east façade, was threatened." (

The gold ornamentation was repainted, but not gilded.
