In May 1965 this inshore Lifeboat Station was established with a D class lifeboat. In August 1973 an Atlantic 21 rigid inflatable lifeboat replaced the original lifeboat.
Helmsman Alan Coster was awarded a bronze medal when he took this inflatable lifeboat within approximately 20 yards of Al Mor, a fishing vessel, which was sinking at the entrance to the Lymington River. The weather conditions included a southerly gale and rough sea and he had to swim to the vessel then lead the two crew members over the marshes to meet with the lifeboat on 17 December 1980.
