Built on land donated by the city's founder, the first building was completed in 1911. The Memorial Health System now includes other facilities, including a new Northern campus opened in 2007, and a new emergency department on its Central campus. This Central facility has the busiest emergency department in the state. There are five separate, specialized care units: pediatrics, trauma/cardiac, behavioral/substance abuse and two general emergency.
Memorial established a partnership with The Children’s Hospital (in Denver) to jointly manage southern Colorado’s only children’s hospital, now called "Memorial Hospital for Children in partnership with The Children’s Hospital."
