Lima, Ohio was once famous for the Lima Locomotive Works. This class S3 2-8-4 Berkshire, NKP 779, was the very last steam locomotive ever built there.
It was built in 1949 by the Lima Locomotive Works for the Nickel Plate Railroad. The tender carried 44,000 pounds of coal and 22,000 gallons of water. It was retired in 1958, after logging 677,095 miles.
