The sculpture entitled "Family Walk" was created by Northeast Ohio Artist Melissa Daubert. “Family Walk” features a family of five animal-like figures – two babies seated on a father’s back and one hanging from a mother’s belly. Metal armatures with bronze faces and glass eyes are lovingly, painstakingly covered in turf to make them weather-resistant and reminiscent of topiaries. Their coats of green pull viewers back to nature in the midst of an urban setting.
Daubert uses various shades of green to inspire the sense of calm and balance that comes from nature and to symbolize the energy of new growth and hope for the future. The artist hopes visitors feel this as they walk around the animal family, being able to gaze into their eyes and to give them a hug or a pet.
