Lt Durett sucessfully ejected over Pelham Before ejecting he put the aircraft into a dive into the unpopulated Reservoir. He saw no explosion and just the crash so he assumed that the aircraft had crashed through the ice into the Quabbins depths. The aircraft was not discovered for over five years.
