You are beside the sign at the entrance to a 15 - 20 minute walkway through an area of hot springs which has been used by the Ngati Tuwharetoa people for more than 500 years for bathing and cooking of food. The Maori also recognised and made use of the curative properties of the mineral waters.
Also, you are very close to the nearby Tokaanu hot thermal pools and swimming pool, and you too can enjoy a soak in the hot mineral waters. As you cross the bridge, look down, rainbow trout can often be seen here in the cold Tokaanu stream that flows beside the thermal area.
Location Name: Tokaanu Thermal Walkway.
