The United Farmers Cooperative, with headquarters in York, is responsive to local producers' interests and has both bio-diesel and E85 available at their self-service "pay-at-the-pump" facility on the southeast corner of 16th & Platte Avenue, one block west of Lincoln Avenue.
Nebraska has signs on Interstate 80 alerting people to locations where E85 can be found, but York's location is relatively obscure. From Interstate 80, one can come north through York, and turn west on 16th Street at the north end of the Lincoln Avenue Underpass (WM75H3). From Highway 34 or southbound Highway 81, come south on Lincoln Avenue to 16th Street, and turn west.
The price sign credits York's ABENGOA BIOENERGY ethanol plant for supplying the E85. York is in the middle of Nebraska's irrigated corn country. Two seed corn production plants, one major seed corn research facility, and the ethanol plant reflect the importance of corn to the local economy.
The site was formerly the location of a concrete grain elevator and adjacent office and equipment storage buildings. One side of the elevator ruptured; the tidal wave of spilled grain buried the office building. The old buildings were removed, and the Co-op found a new use for the site.
