A lively schedule of programs and events for art lovers of all ages includes Kids Make Sculpture, Hot Metal Pour, artist-led tours and the Fall Arts Festival. The 20-acre park, with a rotating collection of over 75 contemporary sculptures, reflects the creative talents of local, national, and international artists and is free and open to the public 365 days a year. Franconia Sculpture Park is located 45 minutes northeast of the Twin Cities at the intersection of Highways 8 and 95 in the beautiful St. Croix River Valley.
From the International Sculpture Center website:
Franconia Sculpture Park (FSP) is a rural 16-acre site located between Shafer and Taylors Falls, Minnesota. FSP defines its mission as a world-class sculpture park that supports emerging and mature artists and their careers, conducts operating workshops, and offers residency programs. Franconia Sculpture Park occupies a unique position as the only high profile, work/residence outdoor sculpture park in the Midwest. Sculptors are invited to come and create work to be site-specific for the park and some pre-existing works are sited as well. All sculptures have a 2-year showing. Franconia’s primary goal is to support young and emerging sculptors, and to uphold the works of mature sculptors from Minnesota. Franconia’s other goals include bringing in national and international sculptors who will serve as synergists to the arts community of our region. As a part of our dedication to building expertise and experience in emerging artists, FSP vigorously recruits post-graduate emerging artists to participate in our artist intern program. Responsibilities of the intern position are primarily to assist visiting artists with fabrication, site preparation, and installation of work. Artist interns are also encouraged to create a work for the year’s exhibition.
