Adelade Parklands Terminal is where the Indian-Pacific pulls in on its way from Perth to Sydney and return, and The Ghan and The Overland start or terminate on their respective journeys to Darwin and Melbourne.
Whilst the attached Wikipedia reference may give a good account of the station, it may be worth noting that Adelaide is the major centre for the above mentioned trains (owned by "Great Southern Rail" (GSR)which is a subsiduary at the time of writing of the Serco Company of the UK). The station building was not of any great architectural significance outside, but the inside is roomy with cafes and a GSR souvenir shop as well as the usual ticket offices, waiting area etc.
Whilst the station is served by a single platform of standard gauge rail, there was still a number of extra broad gauge rails still in evidence.
The Indian-Pacific service has to backtrack to Crystal Brook some 150km or so away before resuming either its eastward or westward journey. The Locomotive is turned, but typically passengers who were on the left of the train before will now be on the righthand side of the train after their journey recommences.
