Smithsonian American Art Museum's Inventories of American Painting and Sculpture
A male pioneer, dressed in a long, loose-fitting jacket, shirt, leather trousers, and wide-brimmed hat, stands with a whip folded over his proper left shoulder while grasping a rifle with his proper left hand. The statue is placed atop a stone and brick base which rests on a stepped area surrounded by a number of benches.

According to the Smithsonian site this exact statue could possibly be one of the 50 smaller copies of the 14 foot original statue which currently sits on the grounds of the Dutton-Lainson Company Plaza in Haistings, Nebraska. The original was cast in 1991 and dedicated on April 24, 1992
