St Michael is the name often given to a church where pre-Christian religious events took place. The windows reflect the common past activities of the area, haff netting, reiving and smuggling.
There are many tales about the church. Of note is the taking of the church bells by Scottish raiders, who dropped them overboard in the Solway estuary whilst escaping. The locals retaliated by taking the bells from Dornock and Middlebie. Nowadays each new rector in Annan asks for his bells back, and is politely refused. (

There are grave stones to notorious reivers and smugglers in the churchyard. Pick up the leaflet inside.
