History
Built in 1958, with funds provided by the Lamar Foundation. Crosby County Pioneer Memorial Museum (CCPMM),Zina Lamar, is a community center that houses 17,100 square feet of museum space, meeting rooms, kitchen, stage auditorium, and banquet facilities. The Lamar Foundation fostered CCPMM s operation, expansion, growth, and development. The first museum gallery (1958) was a replica of the Hank Smith Rock House, home of the first resident on the High Plains (1877). The east wing, added in 1962, houses exhibits featuring home and family living. The west wing, which was added in 1971, has chronological history exhibits covering the story of Crosby County and its environs. Permanent exhibits include the Llano Estacado Mural; the Crosby County Diorama depicting flora, fauna and area land forms; a replica of a half dugout, a typical pioneer dwelling; and a replica facade of the first permanent home, which was built of area limestone. CCPMM's programs include the Pioneer Memorial Educational Project, a cooperative venture between the museum and three Crosby County school districts.
