Columbia Mine is owned by Black Beauty Coal Co. and operated by Vigo Coal Co. and Columbia Maintenance Services, Inc. Signs at the site indicate that visitors may be allowed, but check-in at the office is required, along with some mandatory safety training. You can see some of the operations and equipment from the road, though. There is also an interesting set of dual train tracks nearby. We saw a train pass through (going quite fast, I might add) when we visited the site.
