In Commemoration of the safeguarding of the Great Seal of Georgia and the unfinished acts of the legislature 1864.
Within five hundred feet east of here lived Georgia's wartime secretary of state Nathan C. Burnett. At midnight November 18, 1864 , just before the arrival of the Federal Army. He and his wife Mary buried the Great Seal under their home. His wife hid the unfinished acts of the legislature under the pig pen. These with the Great Seal were returned unharmed to the state legislature at Macon in February 1865.
