The Gallery of Milos Alexander Bazovsky in Trencin is
advantageously situated in the centre of Povazie and it arose in
1969, it is an interesting centre by its geography and culture. It
bears its name after the Natlonal Artist M. A. Bazovsky (1899 -
1968), an outstanding Slovak painter living the last years of his
withering and varied Iife in Trencin (1962 - 68).
Architecturally imposing spaces from the Baroque Piorist
monastery have become the seat of gallery (1653 - 57). They have
been reconstructed and brought into contemporaneous shape in the
year 1973 - 1979. The orientation towards visual arts of 20 th
century has been clear at the beginning of this gallery not only in
regional, but also in worldwide connections.
The principle of the gallery's collection and its dominant art
exposition are represented by masterpieces of M. A. Bazovsky, whose
work has played an important part directing towards modern art.
More than 1000 paintings and drawings, which can be proved by
documents, are from the most precious stages of Bazovsky's work.
Thus, giving us information about his very wide thematic horizont
(landscapes, still lives, figural compositions) approaching the
base of thought meditative neflection defining the principle of
Slovak country so vigorously, convincingly and magnificently and
its basic philosophy of living and its inhabitants.
The second field of gallery's collection and its exposition
activity is Slovak visual arts of 20 th century. There are, proved
by documents, the most important people, works, tendencies of
development and stylistic changes through paintings, graphics,
drawings and sculptures of Slovak fine arts from 1918 until
nawadays. Representative exposition according to the restituition
Iaw in 1992 and reduction of gallery's spaces was abolished.
Another tendency of collecting interest and contemporizing
gallery's activity is its exact documentation of art development in
Trencin region. It is concentrated not only on authors that are
still alive, but also on painters that lived or worked in Trencin

struktury jej zbierkoveho fondu a nasledne logicky i do charakteru
expozicnych suborov.
Zaklad galerijnej zbierky i dominantny expozicny celok tvoria
diela M. A. Bazovskeho. Vyse 1000 obrazov, kresieb a gvasov velmi
plasticky dokumentuje najzavaznejsie tvorive peripetie, ohranicuju
vyvojove etapy Bazovskeho tvorby, informuju o jej sirokom
tematickom horizonte, priblizuju zaklad tejto hlbavej myslienkovej
reflexie definujucej emotivne sviezo, presvedcivo a tvaroslovne
bravurne podstatu slovenskej krajiny a zakladnu filozofiu zivota
jej obyvatelov. Systematickym obohacovanim a rozsirovanim tohoto
jedinecneho umeleckeho fondu sa podarilo vytvorit kolekciu
charakterizujucu a reprezentujucu umelca, ktoreho tvorba zohrala
pri konstituovani slovenskeho moderneho umenia urcujucu ulohu.
Druhym okruhom zbierkotvornej i expozicnej aktivity Galerie M. A.
Bazovskeho je slovenske vytvarne umenie 20. storocia (malba,
grafika a socharstvo). Dokumentuje obdobie formovania zakladov
slovenskeho vytvarneho umenia po roku 1918 s prezentaciou
najvyznamnejsich osobnosti, jeho dalsi rozmach a stylove vyvojove
premeny po II. svetovej vojne, ako aj jeho sucasnu, velmi
diferencovanu podobu manifestovanu v tvorbe strednej a mladej
generacie. Vynimku v chronologii tvori len maliar Ladislav
Mednansky, ktoreho zivotne i tvorive peripetie su uzko prepojene s
uzemnou oblastou posobnosti galerie. Dalsim smerom zberatelskeho
zaujmu i prezentacnej cinnosti trencianskei galerie je precizna a
exaktna dokumentacia umeleskeho vyvoja v ramci trencianskeho
regionu. Koncentruje sa nielen na zijucich autorov (maliarov,
socharov, keramikov), ale i na vytvamikov, ktori v Trencine
posobili v minulosti alebo ich tvorba bola urcitym sposobom
zviazana s tymto regionom.
