This stone monument is located along the north side of the Lincoln Highway on the east side of Bucyrus and commemorates the life of local politician and businessman John Edward Hopley. In addtion to being the Ohio leader in the development of the Lincoln Highway, Mr. Hopley founded edited and managed a local newspaper called the Bucyrus Evening Telegraph and he served his country as foreign consul in Southhampton England under President William McKinley and was later promoted to Montevideo, Uruguay by President Theodore Roosevelt.
