As the marker describes, remains of some of the city's earliest residents from the early to mid 1800s. Buried on private land in the "Old North End," they were discovered during various construction projects.
The marker speculates that some could have been troops garrisoned here during the War of 1812, who may have died in the smallpox epidemic which occurred during that period.
