Conrad & Hinkle, Lexington, NC - The Local Neighborhood Grocer on Waymarking.com

Ok locals would deport me if I didn't first mention this place makes "The Best Pimento Cheese Known To Man". They sell so much it's hard to believe. Nearly every restaurant, convience store, chain grocery store in the area carries Conrad & Hinkle Pimento Cheese and proudly display signs saying so. They also sell Chicken Salad, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad etc. and sell tons of that too.

Opened in 1919 on the town square in Lexington, NC. Conrad & Hinkle has been a fixture of the local neighborhood grocery store ever since. To this day locals shuffle in to get their deli meats, and formentioned Pimento Cheese, and various othe fixins as they are locally called. Regular staples, like milk, eggs, butter, and various boxed grocery items can all still be found on the shelves of this picturesque little grocery. A movie could easily been shot here is they needed a place that looks as if it was out of the 1950's. They would not need to change much at all.

Architectural features of this building include white
terra-cotta molding and a cornice which sharply
contrasts with the patterned red brick walls. Conrad
& Hinkle Grocery opened in 1919 and continues
operating in the same location today. In 1940,
Conrad & Hinkle was the first grocery store in North
Carolina to install steel lockers and to process
meat for individuals.
