Passengers on the Inland Passage Cruises on the Alaskan Coast stop here. On our cruise, we saw lots of glaciers, wildlife, and the scenery the Alaska is famous for, but the only gold was in the tourist shops. Still, worth the trip!
Miners faced enormous hardships as they climbed into the Yukon in search of gold. Skagway was the last place they could stock up on provisions and tools to get them through the summer...they really didn't want to face the 6-months of very little light during the winter.
