Rocky Boy's provides a home for about 2,500 members of the Chippewa-Cree tribe. The name "Rocky Boy" was derived from the name of a leader of a band of Chippewa. It actually meant "Stone Child," but it was translated incorrectly into English and evolved into "Rocky Boy." Rocky Boy's Reservation is near the Canadian border, in northcentral Montana. It is graced by the Bears Paw Mountains, which provide a dramatic contrast to the flat bottomlands of this area.
Did you know? The Rocky Boy Reservation was established through the persistent efforts of both Chief Rocky Boy (Chippewa) and Chief Little Bear (Cree).
