Seven Pines National Cemetery is located in the unincorporated town of Sandston in Henrico County, Virginia. During the American Civil War, several major battles of the Peninsula Campaign in 1862 took place nearby, including the Battle of Seven Pines (in Federal records) or the Battle of Fair Oaks (in Confederate Records). The National Cemetery was established in 1866. The cemetery name is derived from the seven pine trees planted along the inside of the cemetery wall in 1869. The cemetery’s 1.9 acres are located on a portion of the battlefield.
Seven Pines National Cemetery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. In modern times, the area nearby is commonly called Seven Pines.
