This watermill is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from May to September and is manned by volunteers who are passionate about the building and its history. In use for hundreds of years, the mill was fully operational up until WWII when it was burnt to the ground, leaving only stonework and artefacts, and it was not until the National Trust stepped in that the mill was returned to full working order. Using original pieces from other sites that had fallen into disrepair, the building now appears to be in its pristine original state, if only through the clever incorporation of authentic materials.
The mill still produces wholemeal flour, which our guide says is still used to make bread for local people. The site looks out over buttercup meadows and is the perfect stop to recover after a day in the saddle.
Current Status: Still In Use
