Located on Main St in Louisburg at the SW corner of the Tar River bridge, this marker was placed in honor of the only North Carolinian to participate in the Corps of Discovery. A small parking area is provided.

Member of Lewis and Clark Expedition, 1804-06. Led the return trip from Mandan villages. Born 1777 near here.
