In the English Channel wind is never in short supply.
For centuries islanders who were not near a stream, that could be used to power a watermill, built windmills.
Their primary purpose was to grind corn, but some were used to grind malt and later to make sugar from cane .However the combination of large stones grinding and dry raw materials was a constant fire hazard and only a few survived.
The windmill pictured above is in the parish of St. Peter and has been restored to its original glory.
Now it's jewelery showroom.
