The Johnson Creek bridge is a two span Smith truss with iron rods and wooden arches. It is 114' long and was built in 1874. In 1910 it was partially destroyed by fire, but was rebuilt, only to survive an arson attempt in 1968. (Damage that was not repaired until 1972.) The bridge was closed to traffic in 1966 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. A complete restoration was begun in 2007.
This is another bridge that can be seen over the course of a long weekend. Robertson County is near Fleming, Mason, Lewis and Bracken Counties and not terribly far from Greenup, Bourbon or Franklin Counties. This is great countryside for a scenic drive in the fall which is when I first saw this bridge back in 1987. You won't be sorry, especially since the restoration.
