Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette was a friend of the American Revolution and highly respected in Vermont, which he toured after the Revolution. He had several friends here, and his name is found in at least a half-dozen towns.
This statue has been standing at the north end of the University Green since 1883. Bronze on a granite base.
