Young L. G. Harris, a judge from Athens, was an early benefactor of Young Harris College, which was named in his honor by Artemus Lester, the school's founder.

Nephew of Jeptha Vining Harris; married to Susan Allen (daughter of Singleton Walthall Allen; aunt by marriage of Willis B. Adams); first cousin once removed of Tinsley White Rucker, Jr.. Member of Georgia state house of representatives, 1841, 1847-52; delegate to Georgia state constitutional convention, 1865. Died in Athens, Clarke County, Ga., 1894. Interment at Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens, Ga.
