Wood carvings were created using the trees damaged in Buffalo's "surprise October storm" of 2006. This is Carving for a Cause #30, sponsored by the Steadfast Foundation.
Carvings for a Cause "Turning Fallen Trees into Works of Art"
From the website..."There over 20 different species of trees selected to be carved including:
Chinese Elm, Red Oak, Norway Maple, Silver Maple, Lanthis "Tree of Heaven", Bald Cypress, Callery Pear, Box Elder, Black Willow, Green Ash, Hawthorn, Black Locust, Scotts Pine, Sugar Maple, European Beech, Hackberry, Red Maple, hophornbeam, American Linden, Austrian Pine, Cornus Mas, Russian Olive, Coffeetree, Ginko, Cherry Spp., Willow Spp., Poplar Spp.and Elm Spp.
These trees have come from different public parks in our community, including Cazenovia, Delaware, Martin Luther King, Jr., Riverside, and South Park."
Other locations around Buffalo and in Orchard Park, Clarence, Williamsville, Tonawanda, Hamburg, and at the Erie Basin Marina. Depicted are animals and local figures like Tim Russert and Red Jacket.
Plaque in front recounts the story of the chicken wing.
