The Pine Creek and Gowan Loop trails at the Tonto Natural Bridge state Park are a wonderful scenic hike.Starting at the Pine Creek parking area, the trail is developed for only four hundred feet. Then you get into the undeveloped creek bed for the next 1800 feet. You then arrive at the largest natural bridge with a light waterfall showering from the top. It is several hundred feet through the natural bridge, jumping from stone to stone. On the back side of the bridge starts the Gowan Loop phase of the hike at the creek bed observation deck. The hike is steep and rough about 2200 feet winding back to the Gowan loop parking area The travel time for this journey is two hours plus the time spent under the bridge. You can see more varieties of wildlife here than at any other state park in Arizona. On one trip we even saw a mountain lion chasing a young deer.
6-28-2010: Park Admission is now $5.00 per adult Children lower. Park is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. No fires of any typer are allowed in park due to current extreme fire danger.
