Blank Park Zoo is located at 7401 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Iowa's WILDEST Adventure. Daily adventures (learning activivties) include animal encounters, camel treks, feeding giraffes, sea lion demonstrations, serval training demonstration, zookeeper chat, cell phone tours & train rides. Signs listing the times for these activities are posted except for the cell phone tours. For those, you go to the exhibit & punch in the number on the display sign to get the information. New animals at this zoo for 2009 are Red Pandas, Golden-Headed Tamarins, African Cichlids, & Mauritius Pink Pigeons. The zoo has 3 learning areas (ZOOPlex, Discovery Center & Classroom), 3 eating areas (Safari Grill, Oasis Snack Shop, Johnny's Italian Steakhouse) & 2 aviaries. The salt water/coral reef display is in the Discovery Center as are the bat cave, red pandas & tamarins. The Australian Trail area houses the emus, black swans wallabies & peacocks. There's an area called the Kids Kingdom where you can feed llamas, goats, a brama bull, swans, ducks & koi fish. The Great Cats exhibit houses the Lions, Snow Leopards & Tigers. The African Boardwalk has servals, zebras, cranes, giraffes & the giraffe feeding station. The prairie dog exhibit has tunnels for children to go through so they can see how the animals live underground.
