Long Description:Built in 1857 by Butterfield St James' church is connected to and
was built with the Duncombe Mausoleum which also contains stained
glass.
The chancel east and south windows are in the style of Gibbs
whilst the north window is unknown. Even the simple, patterned
designs are intricately detailed whilst the Crucifixion is depicted
in grand colour in the eastern end. The northern chancel window is
unusual with large background ruby, lilac and dark mauve colours
which Pevsner thinks is similar to the style of Burne-Jones.
Visit Instructions:GPS coordinates as close to the stained glass window as possible. A
picture of entire window.
Windows must be stained glass and permanently affixed to a
building of some sort (no color catchers or moveable or detached
stained glass). Tell the story behind the window, the artist if
known, the type of building where it is located and when the window
was created.
