In 1971, the old St. Paul's Cathedral burned, the first in a 13-month string of 8 major fires in downtown Burlington (all suspicious), ending with the destruction of the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception just a couple of blocks away.
As with the new Catholic cathedral, the Episcopals decided to go ultra-modern in its replacement.
