This place has a 5 dollar charge per car and features a great beach, lake for swimming, nature trails, bath house, picnic tables. The nature trails have wonderful interpretives which educate about flora and fauna indigenous to this are of NJ. Camping and cabins are available further up the road. Off to the right there is a centuries old Catholic Cemetery, once abandoned but now waymarked and reclaimed. This place is so totally worth the fee. It is like going to the beach without all the hassle, noise, driving and expense.

From a previous waymark of mine: Atsion Lake is on the Mullica River in Burlington County, New Jersey and is used for recreation purposes. It has been been there since 1930. Its normal surface area is 85 acres. It is owned by NJDOT.

The coordinates are for the beach. The entrance is located at N 39° 44.232 W 074° 43.637 and easy to miss or pass if you drive like a lunatic. You will pay your fee at the toll house located at N 39° 44.257 W 074° 43.746. If you have a large group like we did, call in advance and make a reservation. We had a bus load of kids and it cost us $55. There are also playgrounds with equipment on the left and right of the main complex. nature trails (blue and red trail) begin off to the left. Picnic tables and grills will be to your left when just after you pay the toll or out front and left if your back is to the beach. park CLOSES @ 8 PM and is not open in the cold months.

Reminders of Atsion’s past are visible on the east side of US 206. Atsion is now a part of Wharton State Forest. It was a part of the New Jersey’s purchase of the Wharton Tract in the mid 1950"s. Today the Atsion Recreational Center and lake serve as the focal point of Atsion.
