Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1904, this park had actually played a role in Louisville history for many years prior. The land was part of the DuPont family estate, with the park itself known as DuPont Square. The area also played host to the Southern Exposition in 1883. The land was acquired by the city of Louisville in 1904 and Mr. Olmsted set about redesigning the park.

Today it is used by many who walk its pathways under massive trees. It is also home to the Old Louisville Visitor's Center and the C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheater, where on summer evenings you can catch performances of Shakespeare's plays.
