The DuPont Company had an extensive operation in this area at the turn of the last century. They made millions of tons of gunpowder used in WWI. An intricate light rail system allowed chemicals and finished products to be moved around the plant quickly and more importantly safely. This is the remains of a rail bridge over the Wanaque River. There are extensive ruins on both sides of the river easily explored because of the many trails in the area. Easily accessible to I-287 in the Haskell section of Wanaque with parking close by at the back beach recreation complex at the end of 4th avenue. Parking coordinates N 41° 02.077 W 074° 17.123.
