A six-sided wooden pole made of light-colored unstained wood, pointed at the top, placed in the cement midway between the Civic Center building, the Police Station and the fountain. Plastic plaques are mounted on the top portion of each side, with "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in six languages, including Chumash Indian and American Sign Language.
There was some debate about the installation of the pole at the Civic Center, given that it was purchased by a church, and given to the city as a gift. A similar donation for the city library was not considered appropriate because of separation of church and state. As the message is not specifically religious, the city compromised by not placing a plaque recognizing the donor. You can read more about it here:
City Accepts Peace Pole
The article states that it is 7' tall, however that must include the base in the cement. I'm 5'8" and it's only a few inches taller than me.
