From this genelogy entry (visit link) we learn that: "Valentine and his brother, Frederick, married sisters: Susan and Margaret Range. They settled in Washington County, Tennessee and jointly operated a farm of 637 acres which had been purchased by their father from John Been in September of 1797. The farm, located on the Watauga River, soon became known as DeVault's Ford.

Valentine and Susan were married at the home of her parents, Peter and Elizabeth Range, who lived close by. (See National Register Waymark WM5MV3) Valentine, Frederick and their families lived together and jointly owned all of their property, including slaves. In 1817 Frederick moved to the new community of Leesburg and began construction on the building that would become the DeVault Tavern.

In 1840 Valentine decided to replace the old home with a new brick home. The porch from the old house with its four columns supporting an arch of delicate wood work and carvings was placed at one end of the new home. Today the home sits on a knoll overlooking beautiful Watauga Lake."

DeVault Lane is marked as Degrassee Lane at Bristol Highway 19W. Private home, thus all pictures taken from outside the fenced property line. The current owners need to address the large vines which are killing the very old cedar trees.
