This overlook on the south side of the James River was once part of the Richmond and Petersburg Railroad. One can see the remains of the old bridge as well as views of downtown Richmond and the James River rapids.

Also at the site: a marker dated 1883 list the names of those involved with building the old railroad bridge, a benchmark disk (PID GV6211) is located in the center of the overlook flush with the concrete, and climbers can frequently be found scaling the wall.

The trail that branches off to the overlook also winds its way under the Manchester bridge to the floodwall. That location offers excellent views of the river that are not obscured by vegetation. ***Do not use the stairs at the overlook - they are fenced off and the paved trail at the railroad bridge is a much safer (and intended) route to the floodwall***

The best place to park is a small lot at the NW corner of 7th St and Semmes Ave.
