Bryant-Denny Stadium has been the home of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide since 1929. The stadium was originally named “Denny Stadium” in honor of longtime university president George Denny. In 1975 the Stadium was renamed “Bryant – Denny Stadium,” in honor of legendary football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. Currently (2009) Bryant-Denny Stadium seats more than 92,000 fans, making it the 7th largest on campus football stadium in the United States. Every game at Bryant-Denny Stadium has been sold out since 1988.

Located on the Campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, onsite parking is limited and “Bama” Fans are shuttled to the stadium from satellite parking lots that are located throughout the area. One of the primary tailgating locations appears to be on “The Quad,” which is located a couple of block east of the stadium. Football fans can also tailgate at parking areas throughout the area prior to game time. Alabaman has open container law and it is enforced in the area surrounding the stadium and around the bars and restaurants in Tuscaloosa. Open containers of alcohol are NOT permitted anywhere in the immediate area of Bryant Denny Stadium, although it is often overlooked in tailgate and parking areas as long as beverage is consumed from non-descript containers or cups. Open consumption of alcohol is not tolerated outside of restaurants and bars in Tuscaloosa.

Located just a short walk from the stadium is the Paul W. Bryant Museum, which details the history of Crimson Tide Football. On display are artifacts from every era of Crimson Tide Football, including National Championship trophies and Coach Bryant’s Desk.

The Elephant became the mascot for the Crimson Tide during the coaching tenure of Coach Wallace Wade. Coach Wade referred to his huge linemen as “The Elephants.” In 1930 the Crimson Tide posted a perfect 10-0 record, and shut out 8-opponents, allowing only 13-points all season. “The Red Elephants,” rolled over Washington State in the Rose Bowl and were declared National Champions. The Name stuck and the “Elephant: became the official mascot of the Crimson Tide.
