Although Crockett County was not formed until many years after Davy Crockett's death in 1836 at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, both the county and it's county seat, Alamo, were named in his honor. According to "Tennessee, a Guide to the State", he did live for a brief time in what was to become Crockett County.
