Per "Railroad Depots of Northern Indiana" by David E. Longest (page 70), "This Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad depot was constructed in 1909 and has a red-tiled roof." It has replaced a wood structure which had caught fire.
Sometimes a train station was the best place to do business in small towns.
