The 2009 Lincoln Highway Association meeting featured a driving tour on Saturday June 20th which stopped at the "restored train depot in La Porte". link

Per "Railroad Depots of Northern Indiana" by David E. Longest (page 70), "This Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad depot was constructed in 1909 and has a red-tiled roof." It has replaced a wood structure which had caught fire.

Sometimes a train station was the best place to do business in small towns.
