This is a simple bronze marker plaque set into a granite boulder. There is an engraved flag along with "1999" above the plaque. The memorial sits in front of a lone pine tree in the middle of a roundabout at the tip of the
Canandaigua City Pier at the top of beautiful Canandaigua Lake.
The view from this spot is wonderful. In addition to the beauty of Canandaigua Lake, you can also see nearby
Squaw Island, the smallest New York State Park, as well as the
boathouses along the pier.
Type of Memorial: Non-Specific Memorial
In Honor Of: Those who served their country with honor and those who gave their lives
Marker Text: Look to the hills that
cradle this beautiful lake
and remember those who
served their country with
honor and those who gave
their lives on the sea, land,
and in the air.
"This is their chosen spot."

Description of Memorial: Coming from Rochester, the Canandaigua City Pier was a pleasant surprise. The area, with it's quaint boathouses, reminded me of a New England fishing village. Squaw Island, the smallest state park in New York, was another pleasant surprise. I'd like to come back and visit the island with a kayak sometime. This memorial plaque was gently hidden under the lone pine tree and the small flag drew our attention to it. We definitely enjoyed our visit here.
