Tarentum is a blue collar town not far from Pittsburgh. Since the demise of the steel industry, it has slowly decayed. The river today provides great recreational activities.

The stone memorial is for two fallen firefighters, Michael Sims being the latest. Behind the granite stone, are three other upright stones with then names of firefighters that also served in the armed forces.

Dedicated August 1, 2004.
