Originally established as a land grant to Samuel Appleton in 1638, Appleton Farms (658 acres) is one of the oldest continuously operating farms in the United States. It was owned and operated by nine generations of Appletons until 1998, when it was transferred to the current owner, The Trustees of Reservations.

Operating out of Jimmy's Barn, the Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program sells "shares", for a yearly fee, which entitle the share owner to a shopping bag full (and sometimes more) of produce per week. It runs for the full growing season, June to October (sometimes even into November). In addition to the bag full, each week for most of the season there are additional "pick yourself" items. The type varies during the season, but could include peas, tomatoes, strawberries, beans, and many varieties of herbs and flowers. There is no extra charge for this. Its all part of the "share" price.

Waymark visitors should use one of the two visitor parking areas: one on Highland Street just north of the Cutler Road intersection, and the other at the corner of Waldingfield Road and Route 1A. The coordinates given are for the CSA parking area next to the barn.

There are many more waymarks on the Farms property. See the "Nearest Waymarks" link near the bottom of this page. There are also at least four geocaches. Enjoy the Farms. Its a great place to visit.
